Thursday night, March 4th, the legislators called a special session to
discuss our bill and we need all groups or NC citizens who want to see
HB1380 passed need to load up as many people as possible and be in
Charlotte, NC to support this!!!!!!!!!!!!! See Perry's alert below.
THIS IS AN ALL OUT ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The news next Thursday is covering the event at UNC Charlotte in the cone room of The story
is not about what we talk about..as someone long involved in the news on
the fringe knows, the STORY will be about the size of the CROWD, IT NEEDS
TO OVERFLOW INTO ADJOINING Rooms. If you bring a van with folks and need
gas money, I will personally donate up to $20 per vehicle to help with
gas, first ten vehicles.

Each one of you reading this email, stop. Go into the bathroom, lean close
to the mirror and look the person in the eyes and challenge that person...
ARE YOU REALLY DOING ALL YOU CAN TO GET PEOPLE TO THIS EVENT? If you are
able to look at that person and say yes. you are involved and you should
GET EXCITED..this is it, your chance to shine. Lets just do it.

If you have a van or other transportation, please beg everyone you know,
from Grandma and Grandpa to your local preacher. THIS IS A CHANCE in a
lifetime. We want the room to OVERFLOW.

If you know a local paper person, have it announced in the community
calendar.

Call your local radio station..challenge them to come out and see what it
is all about.

Yesterday, I was again given about 5 minutes on WPTF again. Bill Lemay is
the host and is a hard core conservative but is friendly to my calls about
this..even said it is time to do something..
You can call this show on any Friday afternoon, 919-860-9783, and ask to
chat online about this issue.

Also, please keep the emails going to your representatives. You can be
blunt..Dear Sir/Madam; I support House Bill 1380, please help us pass it.
(signed freddie and I live in your district)

I also spent about 20 minutes on the phone with Sen Kay Hagan's office
yesterday. I told her chief of staff that I wanted the Senator to
personally go to the DEA and DEMAND to know where the Petition to
Reschedule Cannabis Is?

Her office in Washington is (202) 224-6342. Her office in Greensboro is
877-852-9462. Call and demand to know what is being done about it. Tell
them the American Medical Association wants this done so we can do
physician trials and so doctors will finally be able to PRESCRIBE it, not
just recommend it.

You can do all this from the comfort of your home..Please take a minute
and let your fingers do the walking,,better yet, let them run..we are
moving!!!!!

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Dozens of folks rallied at UNC Charlotte Thursday night hoping to see marijuana legalized in North Carolina for medical reasons.

Heading the rally was one-time Mecklenburg County sheriff-elect and current state representative Nick Mackey. The Charlotte Democrat is one of the sponsors of House Bill 1380, which would legalize pot for medical purposes.

"To me it's a no-brainer," Mackey told the crowd at the Cone Center. "I don't see what justification that we can have for knowing that there's something that can relieve the pain and suffering for so many patients with so many different conditions, [and not going] ahead and allowing them to get that relief."

One of the other speakers was Vietnam veteran and committed Christian Perry Parks, who doesn't exactly fit the stereotype of someone who wants to legalize pot.

Parks says he uses marijuana for a back injury he suffered in the National Guard. He says it's an injury doctors have never been able to completely fix.

"It has nothing to do with getting high," Parks said. "It has everything to do with relieving pain."

Parks said at first he was not in favor of the idea of using pot to relieve pain.

"To be honest, I thought it was an excuse just to use it," Parks said. "I have found since then, and I give you my word as an officer and a gentleman, that it absolutely provides the best pain relief that I've ever had."

Mackey is one of three primary sponsors of the bill that would legalize medical marijuana. Fellow Charlotte Democrat Kelly Alexander is one of two co-sponsors.

Not everyone in the state house thinks it's a great idea.

"Pain relief -- I get that," said Cornelius Republican state rep. Thom Tillis. "But this very clearly goes far beyond that."

Tillis says he doesn't buy the argument Mackey made Thursday night that the bill is all about medical purposes.

"It would be disingenuous for the sponsors to say that's all it's about," Tillis told WBTV. "I walk the halls of Raleigh, and I see the wink and the nod [as people say] 'it's only about pain relief.'"

Tillis also says this bill is just another way for North Carolina to tax people. Supporters don't shy away from that charge; they claim it would bring in over $60 million in taxes to the cash-strapped state in just its first year.

House Bill 1380, which has been dubbed the "Medical Marijuana Act," could be voted on this spring.
